Getting rid of Skunk Odor

By cruisenut

Skunks are cute looking animals that can really ruin your day. They will spray you with a smell that you will always remember. It is hard to get rid of the smell and it stays around for a long time.

There is a mixture you can use to remove smell from animals and humans

1 quart of white vinegar (or peroxide)

¼ cup baking soda

1 tsp dish detergent

The old thought of using tomato juice just doesn't work. There is no need to even try that.

Outdoor Furniture:

To get rid of the smell from outside, like a patio, or outdoor furniture, you can use Simple Green, or make your own mixture of:

1 part Clorox

9 parts water

Spray the outdoor furniture to remove the odor.

Clothing:

Wash the clothes twice using regular laundry detergent. Do this as soon as possible to be effective.

If your pet still smells, you may have to take them to the vets or to the groomers to have them give them a bath. Always check your pet's vaccinations for rabies, making sure they are up to date since skunks do carry rabies. If skunks are a problem in your area you can also contact a pet removal service to trap the skunk and relocate them.

Wow thanks for the great tips--I'll have to try this on my patio cushions, they were left out a little to much last year. This way I won't have to replace them again.
